Help Jerry Lewis Receive An Honor
He Deserves

Featured on this page is information regarding a means of recognition that Chris DeBello believes entertainer and humanitarian Jerry Lewis has earned and is worthy of receiving. It's hoped that you'll agree and join the effort to make this become a reality.

Presidential Medal Of Freedom

The Presidential Medal Of Freedom is our country's highest civilian honor. When you look at the list of people who have been awarded this honor you'll see former Presidents, civil rights leaders, philanthropists, educators, scientists and business people. Those honored with this award include....

His Holiness Pope John Paul II, President Gerald Ford, Simon Wiesenthal, Justice William Brennan Jr., Rosa Parks, Gen. Tommy Franks

And there were many more. A complete list can be found here.

The list of honorees also features some of the superstars of film, television, music and sports. These names include....

Bill Cosby, Mr. Rogers, Charlton Heston, Hank Aaron,
Carol Burnett, Placido Domingo

One deserving name that's missing from the list of those awarded this highest of national honors is Jerry Lewis. It's amazing that the country of France has awarded Jerry Lewis their highest civilian honor, The French Legion Of Honor, two times yet America has yet to recognize him at a similar level even once.

Along with his work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, where he's led the efforts for seven decades to raise over $2 billion, Jerry's humanitarian work has inspired greater scientific research and discovery. The results of that research has branched out to medical areas outside of the neuromuscular diseases.

Jerry's career as an entertainer landed him at the top of the country's popularity list first with his partner Dean Martin and later on his own. Jerry played a huge role in the growth of the then new medium of television. He's also taught and written about film making which has inspired others to excel. Jerry Lewis is also the inventor of a process known as live assist which has since become a standard in the film industry.

In light of this ommission of a much deserved honor and recognition for Jerry Lewis, I invite you to click on the link below to sign our petition. This petition details the many achievements of Jerry Lewis and his numerous humanitarian efforts. Our hope is that a large number of signatures once delivered to President Obama via the proper channels will result in Jerry Lewis finally receiving the honor, award and tribute he so richly deserves.

We too often wait to do what's right until we're motivated by the passing of a person. Then we attempt to make things right with regrets that we didn't do it sooner. This is one of those times, given the monumental contributions Jerry Lewis has made to humanity, that we do not wait. Instead, let's work to have the recognition he has earned awarded now with him still here to bask in it rather than later in his honor.
